WE EXPLORE WHAT IT MEANS TO BE THE HANDS AND FEET OF JESUS

ABOUT MONARCH SERVES

Our Monarch Serves Program seeks to introduce students to what the Bible tells us about serving one another, as well as acquaint them with opportunities to serve.  Our desire is for our students to be exposed to a number of different issues and non-profits that seek to address those issues, in the hope that the Holy Spirit will fill them with a passion to make a difference. Monarch Serves spurs students to learn, develop and lead through active participation in thoughtful, organized service that meets the needs of our local and global community, while helping to foster civic responsibility.

OUR STUDENT ADVOCATE

Meet Soleil, a fourth grader at Monarch Learning Academy... called to action when she heard about people hurting from a place that is dear to her. Read a message from her family below about this call to action...

SUPPORT REFUGEES FROM NICARAGUA

A message from Soleil's Mom, Annette Papizzo-Petrie~

One morning in December I saw a news headline about several thousand migrants that crossed into El Paso, Texas overnight. The majority of those migrants were from Nicaragua. Some walked through several countries, some came with their young children, and now they were stuck on the freezing streets of Texas, with just the clothes on their backs.

My family has been visiting Nicaragua since 2011, and I've seen the increasing political and humanitarian issues firsthand. I showed the news story to my daughter, Soleil (4th grade), and she immediately suggested doing a fundraiser with Monarch to help them find some hope in this new place.

We've had so many happy memories in Nicaragua, and it's hard to see that the country is becoming unsafe for its own citizens. We have teamed up with a Refugee Assistance organization in El Paso (Abara), and we are able to specifically designate that all funds raised will go directly to Nicaraguan refugees.

Soleil and I have spoke to the 4th grade classes, and we wanted do a short school wide fundraiser to give hope and basic support to these refugees.

To motivate the students to spread this call to action, the class that has the highest number of donors will earn a Class Pet for the Day. Our 2 adorable guinea pigs... Chuck & Bobby.

A CALL TO SERVE

PEOPLE  FLEE THEIR HOME WHEN LIFE HAS BECOME IMPOSSIBLE

HOW YOUR DONATION DOLLARS WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

Monarch has partnered with the organization ABARA located in El Paso, TX.  Your donation dollars will  go directly to helping refugees arriving from Nicaragua. Abara is doing wonderful things to welcome those seeking safety in the US. During these cold months, imagine how much impact even a warm blanket can be.

ABOUT OUR CHARITY PARTNER

Abara formed as a byproduct of 15 years of work at Ciudad Nueva embedded in a beautiful community of central El Paso on the US-Mexico border.

Ciudad Nueva is a faith-rooted 501(c)3 public charity in central El Paso’s Rio Grande neighborhood striving to cultivate hope and an environment where immigrant youth and families are empowered for a successful future.

Given their strategic location on the border and motivated by the challenges currently facing our region they began to respond to the most pressing needs of the border community, educate about the realities on the ground, and connect resources to where they are needed most.

As a 501(c)(3) organization, all donations to Abara Borderland Connections are deductible for federal income, gift, and estate tax purposes to the fullest extent of the law.
